Apana
Vayu mudra is a combination of Apana Mudra and Vayu Mudra.
Apana
Vayu Mudra is also known as mritha sanjeevani Mudra.
Sanjeevani
(or Sanjivani) is a Sanskrit word (Old-Indian language) and is translated
mostly directly as the „immortal“, „the infinite life“ or as „life
giving“.
A
mudra, which can snatch a person away from the clutches of death! Indeed, this
mudra has tremendously benefited a person who has suffered from chest-pain
(angina pectoris) or a heart attack.
It
increases, the earth element (and therefore the Kapha humor) while decreasing
the air and fire elements within the body.
How
to perform this mudra
The
tips of the middle finger and ring finger touch the tip of thumb, while the
index finger touches the base of thumb and little finger stretched out.
Effects:
This
mudra bestows triple benefits:
1. Removal of obstructions/blockages in, and detoxification of, the body to allow an increase of element Aakaash (space),
2. Increase of vitality due to an increase of element Prithvi (earth) and
3. Sedation of the mind and relaxation of the body/muscles due to a reduction of elements Vaayu (air).

Apaan-vaayu
mudra can be used to overcome the following disorders:
It
benefits the heart. It relieves even at the time of the heart
attack.
It
reduces the gas content in the body.
If
done regularly for 45 minutes daily in three stretches of 15 minutes each in
morning, afternoon and evening, it is capable of solving many problems of heart
disease. When the air element increases in the body, it causes constriction of
heart arteries; they become hard and narrow. Doing this Mudra will relieve
arteriosclerosis’ of the heart, and thus strengthens the heart muscles and
remove blockages in arteries.
